The 4-4 draw between Chelsea and Manchester City has only one precedent: 1937. George Gibson, George Mills, Jackie Bray, Peter Doherty and Fred Tilson were the scorers of that draw; the more recent one features much better known names.

Chelsea and Manchester City brought Christmas early in their Premier League matchday 12 fixture this weekend. They drew 4-4, but it was not just the goals that were the highlight, but also a host of interesting facts and moments that could make for dozens of news reports.
Focusing on the result, there is only one precedent and it dates back to 1937. At that time, the English League was not yet played in the current format, which was installed in 1992, and even then nobody imagined that the Sky Blues could be one of the main threats in the league and in Europe, revitalised by an investment from Abu Dhabi.
In that match, George Gibson, George Mills (hat trick), Jackie Bray, Peter Doherty (brace) and Fred Tilson were the scorers. Erling Haaland (brace), Thiago Silva, Raheem Sterling, Manuel Akanji, Nicolas Jackson, Rodri Hernandez and Cole Palmer were on the scoresheet on Sunday. The variety of origins and nationalities is a good illustration of how international the major leagues have become. This one, in particular, is no longer so British.
Since that 4-4 scoreline in 1937, Manchester City have not had such a result since. By contrast, Chelsea have had this scoreline eight times before repeating it against the Cityzens. Domestically, this scoreline was repeated against Portsmouth, Preston North End, Burnley, Oxford United, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur; in Europe, against Liverpool in the quarter-finals of the Champions League in 09-10 and against Ajax in the group stage of 19-20.
