After criticising the ball, Neymar complained about artificial turf

Several of the biggest names in Brazilian football, including Neymar, defender Thiago Silva and midfielder Philippe Coutinho, joined a campaign against artificial turf on Brazilian pitches on Tuesday. The new signing from Santos had already complained a few days ago about the Penalty ball.

Neymar, along with other Brazilian football players, posted a photo on Instagram criticising some Brazilian pitches with the slogan "Football is natural, not synthetic". The Brazilian, who had already complained about the ball, shared the following message: "The direction Brazilian football is taking is worrying. It is absurd that we have to talk about synthetic turf on our pitches. Objectively, with the size and representativeness of our football, that shouldn't even be an option."
The players who have joined the initiative replicated the same publication on their profiles, in which they state that the country should look after the quality of the ground "on which its footballers play and train" if it wants to "definitively consolidate itself as a protagonist in the world football market".
Currently, Botafogo, Palmeiras and Athletico Paranaense have synthetic turf on their pitches. Palmeiras responded swiftly to the campaign and recalled that this surface is "certified by FIFA" and undergoes "annual inspections" since it was installed in 2020.
"There is no scientific evidence to show that the risk of injury on artificial pitches is greater than on natural pitches. On the contrary, a recent study published in the journal ‘The Lancet Discovery Science’ points out’ that the incidence of injury is lower", the Paulista club said in a statement.
