Former Manchester City star Sergio Aguero is demanding a €3million payout from Barcelona three years after announcing his retirement from professional football. After leaving City, the Argentine joined for the Spanish giants in the summer of 2021, making just five appearances for the club before bidding farewell to football.
The 33-year-old was forced to hang up his boots after investigations revealed that he suffered from arrhythmia - problems with the rate or rhythm of his heartbeat. The player was taken off the pitch during a match against Deportivo Alaves for what was initially believed to be simply chest pain. However, further diagnosis revealed the more serious explanation, which then saw Aguero breaking out the news in a press conference.
"When I got down on the grass is when that pressure went down. And my heart started beating faster. I got the arrhythmia. I had already had smaller episodes. And a week before it had happened to me in training. The doctor told me to calm down that it was going to stop, but it didn't stop. Two minutes were like 20. I took it as if it was going to cure, and I was hospitalised for four days and then the diagnosis came," he revealed during his emotional farewell.
According to 'Mundo Deportivo', Aguero now wants a considerable compensation package from Barcelona. The Spanish outlet claims that a €3m payout was demanded by the former striker as part of an employment resolution package. At the time of his retirement, Aguero still had 18 months remaining on his contract with the club, which included a €100m buyout clause in the deal.
