Liverpool maintained their perfect record in the Champions League with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Girona, courtesy of a Mohamed Salah penalty. Manager Arne Slot, however, was far from pleased with the overall performance despite the positive result. The Reds relied heavily on goalkeeper Alisson Becker, who marked his return from a two-month injury layoff with a series of vital saves.
Slot praised the Brazilian's impact, stating, "He showed again today why I said so many times that he's our first goalkeeper... [He] showed today that he's probably one of the best, in my opinion the best goalkeeper in the world".
The manager expressed concerns about the team's intensity and control during the match, particularly in the first half. "If every time you are waiting a few seconds before you press, and if you do press you are so easily outplayed, then this team can cause you a lot of problems," Slot remarked, highlighting areas for improvement.
Despite the criticisms, Liverpool secured the win, extending their winning streak to six games in the group stage. Slot acknowledged Girona's quality and unfortunate position in the group, saying, "I almost feel sorry for them because they deserved so much more in this Champions League campaign than the three points they have until now".
