Ruben Amorim has officially taken charge of Man United on Monday and will lead the club for the first time in their game against Ipswich following the November international break. Ahead of his arrival, the Portuguese paid tribute to club icon Sir Alex Ferguson, applauding the former manager's influence at Old Trafford.
“Alex Ferguson was someone very special, he’s above everyone else at that club,” the now-former Sporting boss said, as he was asked who he would like to have dinner with out of Ferguson, Roy Keane, Eric Cantona, and Rio Ferdinand. “But it would be difficult to choose anyone. I will try to have lunch and dinner with all of them," he added.
Amorim has the challenging task of turning United's fortunes around after Ferguson established them as the most dominant team in England prior to his retirement in 2013. The 39-year-old has brought Sporting back to the top while deploying a unique 3-4-3 formation, which is significantly different 4-2-3-1 formation used by Ten Hag over the past two seasons.
Nevertheless, the incoming Man United head coach has already implied that he will opt for his trusted tactics in the Premier League. “I know how I am going to play in the beginning because you have to start with a structure that you know,” he explained. “We don’t have a lot of time to train, so I have to show something that I know very well.”
