Real Madrid will have the opportunity to seek revenge against Barcelona tonight in the final of the Spanish Super Cup after the 'Merengues' lost that very title to the 'Cules' in January 2023.
On that day Xavi Hernandez won the tactical battle against Carlo Ancelotti, but the truth is that the Italian coach has won the last two official 'Clasicos', including a crushing 4-0 victory at the Camp Nou that deprived the Catalan giants of the final of the Copa del Rey, a trophy that Madrid went on to win.
The Italian coach boasted of his 28 years of coaching experience compared to just seven years for the young Catalan coach on the bench. "He's doing a great job, but he doesn't have my experience because he's been doing this for less time," he noted.
Moreover, the former Everton boss made it clear that his team are not playing for revenge. "Madrid don't play for revenge, they always come out on top." Asked if they are physically fit despite the tough extra time against Atletico, he said: "We're fine, don't worry. The team has recovered. Emotionally we are motivated."
