During his press conference, Carlo Ancelotti did not hesitate to congratulate Leo Messi, Scaloni and Emi Martinez for winning their respective prizes at The Best gala. However, the Italian claimed that the nominations for the best player didn't surprise him that much, and that his best three would have been Real Madrid players.

Carlo Ancelotti was somewhat disapproving of not being chosen as the best manager of the year, despite winning La Liga and the Champions League, yet congratulated winner Lionel Scaloni, as well as Leo Messi and Emi Martinez, chosen ahead of Karim Benzema and Thibaut Courtois as the best player and goalkeeper in 2022.
"For us, this trophy isn't that important. The World Cup counted for a lot", the Italian said after the gala where neither he nor his players went.
"The World Cup meant Argentina were deserved world champions, it's quite normal for Messi, Emi and Scaloni to win this prize. Therefore, I'd like to personally congratulate them".
He avoid the 'Carletto' controversy, but made it clear that the best three players of the year that he would have voted for would have all been from Real Madrid.
"I wasn't that surprised with the top three (Messi, Mbappe and Benzema), it was expected, they're world-class players. I can't say my three because I've got a conflict of interests. They're from Madrid, by the way", he said.
