Virgil van Dijk is the keeper of Anfield. You can only describe a man who in his first 100 home games in the Premier League has only lost on two occasions.
These statistics speak to the importance the Dutch centre-back has had and still has in Jurgen Klopp's, and now Arne Slot's, schemes. Against Brentford, Van Dijk became a centenarian at Anfield, only counting Premier League matches. Sunday's 2-0 win was his 82nd as a Liverpool player.
Van Dijk has so far accumulated 82 wins, 16 draws and only two defeats. You might think that Manchester City, Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea would have been guilty of bringing the Dutchman to his knees.
However, none of them have been able to beat Van Dijk at Anfield. Only Leeds United and Crystal Palace have done so. The first defeat came on 29 October 2022, Van Dijk's 71st home game. In that game, Summerville's 89th-minute strike ended the Reds' hopes and handed victory to Jesse Marsch's men.
It was not until the latter part of last campaign that the Reds' second and, so far, last defeat with Van Dijk in the squad at Anfield came. Oliver Glasner's Crystal Palace stormed Liverpool's stadium to leave Klopp's side virtually out of the title race.
100 games, 98 matches without defeat. Van Dijk's record makes him one of the greatest players in Liverpool's history.
