Argentina play in a matter of hours in Houston (USA) against Ecuador in the quarter-finals of the Copa America. More than 8,500 kilometres away, Spain will face Germany in Stuttgart in the same round of the Euro 2024. They might not have much in common, but there is an inseparable bond between La Albiceleste and 'La Roja'.
In the run-up to the match against the Ecuadorians, the Argentina coach sent a nod to his counterpart after being questioned about Spain's role at the European Championship. "Luis was my teacher in the coaching course, did you know that or did I just tell you? You were surprised there," Scaloni told a press conference.
"Logically I want Spain to do well. Luis is a great guy. I had a chat with him and I wish him all the best, the truth is that it's nice how he expresses himself, how he handles himself, how the players give themselves for him and for Spain," added a Lionel Scaloni who continued his plea for 'La Roja'.
"Luis is doing things very well and he knows that I have a part of my Spanish family, so I wish them well. Because they deserve it, above all. So in this case I'm going with Spain, logically," he concluded.
