Premier League chiefs and referees' body Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) have banned Arsenal from wearing their traditional red-and-white home kit in their clash against Tottenham pn Sunday. The club were told the home kit featured 'too much white', thus clashing with Spurs' white-and-navy colours.
Arsenal’s home shirt for the 2024/25 season features a lot of white, with prominent white shoulders, sleeves and shorts. The Gunners tried to reach a compromise with the officials, offering to alter the colour sequence of their kit as a means to enhance its redness - wearing red shorts and socks with a white shirt instead. Nonetheless, the idea was rejected by the league.
Arsenal were reportedly notified of this potential problem before the start of the season, however, it was too late to make changes by then. As a result, the players will be wearing their all-black away kit in the upcoming North London Derby fixture. As part of PGMOL's decision, Tottenham will also wear their away kit when they visit the Emirates Stadium for the reverse fixture at the beginning of the second-half on the season - January 14th.
The decision sees Arsenal wearing their away kit in the North London Derby for the first time in 38 years. The last time, it was in the 1985/86 season when the league's shorts-clash rule was still in force.
