David Raya joined Arsenal last summer from Brentford on loan, primarily to compete with Ramsdale for the Gunners' first choice goalkeeping job.
However, the Spanish keeper beat the English keeper far quicker than expected against all odds to become Mikel Arteta's man of choice in goal at the Emirates Stadium.
Raya's incredible campaign with the north London outfit has led to the Gunners' board deciding to activate the £27million option to buy the Spanish goalkeeper included in the loan deal.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal are expected to proceed with the formal steps to activate the clause and make it official that Raya will stay at the club within the next few days.
The Spanish goalkeeper, who won the Golden Glove for keeping 16 clean sheets in the Premier League, has made 41 official appearances this season, 41 of which have been starts in which he has conceded 31 goals.
