Atletico Madrid had several options to turn to should Artem Dovbyk not arrive at the Metropolitano. With the Ukrainian heading to Roma, Alexander Sorloth would be the chosen one to reinforce the team's forward line, according to 'L'Equipe'.
Atletico and Villarreal are already in the final stages of negotiations for the 28-year-old to try his luck elsewhere. The same media outlet reports that the Madrid outfit will pay around 35 million euros for him.
Sorloth bears some similarities to Dovbyk. The former Real Sociedad player has improved his goalscoring contribution significantly this past season as he scored 26 goals in 41 competitive matches.
Memphis Depay's departure from Atletico could have been expected, but not that of Alvaro Morata. So far, Antoine Griezmann and Angel Correa are the undisputed forwards along with Samu Omorodion and Carlos Martin, who are less likely to stay in Simeone's squad.
