UEFA's Appeals Committee on Thursday fined Atletico Madrid 30,000 euros for Nazi salutes by some of their fans during the Champions League matchday two fixture against Benfica at Lisbon's Da Luz stadium, the body told the Spanish club.
In addition, it also agreed to sanction the Madrid club with a ban on the sale of tickets to their away fans during a match in European competition, although the suspension is conditional on there being no repetition of such incidents for a period of one year.
UEFA has not yet announced the sanction on its official channels, but Spanish media report the punishment. Atletico were already sanctioned in 2022 by UEFA with the partial closure of the Metropolitano stadium for the display of a flag with Nazi symbolism by the ultras in the first leg of the quarter-finals of the top European competition against Manchester City.
