The Appeals Committee of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has reduced the partial closure of Atletico Madrid‘s stadium from three matches to one for the incidents at the derby on the eighth matchday of La Liga and has reduced the fine to 3,000 euros.
The appeal has partially upheld the Rojiblanco team's appeal against the sanction imposed by the RFEF's Disciplinary Committee on 2 May, which was the partial closure of the lower south stand for three matches, and a fine of 45,000 euros for the club.
The reason for the sanction was the throwing of objects during the match into the area where the Madrid goalkeeper, Belgian Thibaut Courtois, was standing, which led to the temporary suspension of the match. The match was eventually restarted and ended 1-1.
