Cole Palmer, who was signed by Chelsea from Manchester City in the summer transfer window, has withdrawn from England U21 training camp due to injury.
The 21-year-old took part in England U21's superb 9-1 win over Serbia U21 but had to be substituted in the second half due to a thigh injury.
"I think Cole would be fine. But we don’t take any chances with any of the players. If there is a slight doubt that they’re going to miss a game at the weekend, we get them back to the clubs as quickly as we can.
"We could’ve kept Cole here another day and see how it was, but we didn’t think it was right," said England U21 manager Lee Carsley. Chelsea have not yet provided an update on his injury but Palmer is likely to miss the next Premier League game against Arsenal.
The Blues have gone three games unbeaten despite their poor start to the season and will be hoping to continue their good run against the Gunners at Stamford Bridge. However, a fearsome Arsenal, who have not been beaten since the start of the season, will not gift them victory so easily.
