Barcelona defender Alejandro Balde left the field on a stretcher 26 minutes into Saturday's match between the Catalans and Las Palmas at the Olimpico Lluis Companys Stadium after a collision with rival striker Sandro Ramirez.
Spanish outlet COPE has reported that the player has now recovered. In a fortuitous action, the forward of the visiting team hit the defender's neck with his shoulder when he was trying to protect the ball, and the home player was left lying on the pitch with obvious signs of pain and breathing difficulties.
There were even images of the Barcelona full-back spitting blood from the blow to his windpipe. Balde had to leave the pitch on a stretcher after being treated by the club's medical services for several minutes and he was replaced by full-back Gerard Martin.
