Although the announcement of his hiring took place weeks ago and he has been in charge of the team's training sessions for several days this preseason, Hansi Flick had not been formally presented to the media as FC Barcelona's coach. The German experienced that moment on Thursday, July 25th, appearing before the press together with president Joan Laporta.
The 'Cules' president began the presentation by praising Flick. “We believe he is the right person for the team. Because of his experience, his discipline, his culture of hard work, his philosophy... He is the best qualified to give us the drive to face the challenges we have,” explained Laporta, who also had a few words of remembrance for Xavi Hernandez.
“I have to tell you that the decision for me not to continue was not an easy one. I can assure you. Making a decision like that, which affects someone you appreciate and are fond of, and who has written with golden letters in Barca's history, is very hard. But we had to put Barça's interests first - it was time to make a change. I want to thank Xavi and his entire coaching staff for their good work,” he said.
After this, Flick began to speak. The German wanted to thank the board headed by Laporta for their confidence in him. “I am very happy. I spoke with the president before signing and he made me feel from the first moment how big this club is,” began the former Bayern Munich and German national team coach.
Without pause, the German coach spoke about what he has seen in these first days in charge of the team, having very good words for La Masia. “I am very happy with the first few weeks. We have a lot of players from La Masia. We have a lot of wonderful young players. We have to create this atmosphere for the players, to be able to develop them and take them to a higher stage in their career. And that's what I'm going to focus on,” explained a Flick who spoke about what to expect from his Barça.
In addition, the former Bayern Munich and Germany coach concluded by saying that one of his clear objectives is to win titles, as required by a great club like Barcelona. "Barca always want to win trophies and that is why I'm here."
