Journalist David Sanchez claims on 'Radio Marca' that Joan Laporta has approached Frank Rijkaard to ask him to replace Xavi Hernandez at the end of the season. The Dutchman has been out of coaching since Saudi Arabia sacked him as coach in 2013. In fact, he announced that he would not return to coaching in 2014.

Two La Liga titles, two Spanish Super Cups and one Champions League, the one in Paris in 2006, is a great achievement that will awaken sweet memories in the Barcelona fan's mind. According to David Sanchez on 'Radio Marca', Joan Laporta has thought of Frank Rijkaard as a replacement for Xavi Hernández at the end of this season. The Spanish coach has already made it known that he will not continue after 30th June and the Dutchman is being targeted to replace him.
The alternative has been out of coaching since 2014, when the Saudi Arabian Federation sacked him as coach for failing to reach the Gulf Cup finals that season. Before that, he was at Galatasaray, his first destination after leaving Barcelona, where he managed 66 games, winning only 36 of them, which was not enough for the board, who sacked him when they were 9th in the Turkish League and had been knocked out of the Europa League in the qualifying round.
The source mentioned in the first paragraph states that his return is not easy. In principle, he does not intend to accept the offer, although he does not close doors. At present, he is focused on his entrepreneurial side, in which he is particularly adept in the hotel and catering business. It would be a drastic change for his life and his day-to-day life to return to the spotlight, to the attention of the press and to the criticism.
However, it is true that, referring to his past, he may have caused the kind of shock that Barcelona need to get back on track. Since winning La Liga last season, the team has fallen prey to a decline, particularly defensively, that not only jeopardises their hopes of staying in contention for La Liga title, but suggests that their Champions League performances are not going to be particularly promising.
