Manchester City's Spanish account used Ilkay Gundogan, who has not yet renewed his contract with the English club, to promote their new home kit for the 2023/24 season. The tweet was later deleted.
With the message "what a jersey" and an image of Gundogan pointing to the crest, City's Spanish-language account, rather than the main English-language one, at times sowed doubts about the German's imminent deal with Barcelona, his main suitors in this transfer window.
Gundogan arrived in 2016 under Pep Guardiola, who signed him from Borussia Dortmund">Borussia Dortmund, and has become a key player for the English side, both as captain and as a symbol of the treble that the Sky Blues won this season.
His contract expires on 30th June and, despite City's best efforts, they have not reached an agreement with the midfielder.
In fact, the player asked Barca for time not to announce his signing. He wanted to say a proper goodbye to the English club, which is why this publication was such a surprise, but it has now been deleted, and it is not known why.
