Barcelona are looking for a defensive pivot to take over from Sergio Busquets. From the list of candidates, 'Mundo Deportivo' confirms there are 2 clear front runners: Martin Zubimendi, from Real Sociedad, and Bayern's Joshua Kimmich. Neither of the two look to be an easy signing, nor will they come cheap.

There have been many players sounded out as the replacement for Sergio Busquets at Barcelona. But the clock is ticking and the club have been crossing names of their list, and now are left with two.
'Mundo Deportivo' reports that, as of now, Barca are deciding between to players. Martin Zubimendi and Joshua Kimmich are Xavi's favourites.
The former plays for Real Sociedad, and his fee is 60 million. The second belongs to Bayern and has two years left on his contract, which complicates his departure.
Barca's plan, according to the newspaper, is to work on two fronts. They will try to sign Zubimendi and Kimmich at the same time and finally decide on one of them as events progress.
Martin Zubimendi seems to be the one the coach likes the most. The problem is his high price tag. In order to reduce the price, Barca would be willing to offer players. Real might have been interested in Ez Abde, Pablo Torres and Nico Gonzalez, but 'Mundo Deportivo' assures that they will not accept players in the operation. Barca hope to convince Zubimendi and that he will be the one to do the hardest part: get Real to give his transfer the green light.

Regarding Kimmich, the club is well aware how much it would cost to get him out of Munich. Bayern are refusing to part with the player, but Barca are not throwing in the towel and intend to maintain formal contact with the Bavarians to negotiate. For the moment, there has been no approach to the club and no talks with Kimmich.
If Barca are hoping to get him out by brute force, like they did with Lewandowski, they can forget it. The footballer, if he does leave the club, wants to do it on good terms.
Barca has two different and equally challening routes available, but the club has decided to try both at once. All that's left is to see if they can reap the reward from their hard work.
