If Barcelona prodigy Lamine Yamal manages to start for Spain against Georgia on Friday, he will become the youngest player ever to pull on a La Roja shirt.

Less than two months after celebrating his 16th birthday, Lamine Yamal could well be making Spanish football history by already wearing a La Roja first-team shirt, something that has never been achieved before.
Indeed, the youngest player to have come on for Spain is Gavi, at the age of 17 years, 2 months and 1 day, a far cry from what Yamal could achieve if he played a single minute against Georgia on Friday in the Euro 2024 qualifiers, at 16 years, 1 month and 26 days.
Gavi is also the youngest scorer in the squad, at 17 years and 10 months against the Czech Republic, having overtaken Ansu Fati by just a few days, another record attainable for Barca's attacking gem.
But starting young does not necessarily mean having a great career with the national team. Bojan Krcic, for example, has never been able to make an impact despite making an early start in 2008, just before winning a UEFA European Championship, which the former Roma player missed out on. It has to be said that the competition was not the same as it is today.
Going back further, Angel Zubieta held the record for the youngest player in the Spanish national team for 85 years, but did not manage to stay at the top level for very long.
