Barcelona will visit Porto in the second matchday of the Champions League 2023/2024 group stage at 21.00 CET at the Estádio Do Dragao, a place that brings back fond memories for many fans of the Catalan club and especially for one of its legends: Leo Messi.
The 'Cules' were invited on 16th November 2003 to play a friendly match against the Portuguese club to inaugurate what was then their new stadium, replacing the old Estádio das Antas.
What many spectators did not know was that they witnessed a historic moment: the debut of the best player in the history of Barca and according to many people in the history of football.
A young teenager Messi was introduced by Frank Rijkaard in the 75th minute. The Argentine winger replaced defender Fernando Navarro and even came close to pulling one back for the Catalan giants, who lost that game 2-0. Nearly 20 years later, Barcelona return to the place where a legend was born.
