Frenkie de Jong is once again on the Barcelona board's agenda, who want to offer him a contract extension with a lower salary so that he costs the Catalan side less.

At Barcelona, they have been a bit more alleviated after Gerard Pique announced his retirement. That contract which came to an end, as well as Busquets being expected to go at the end of the season has eased some financial strains at the club.
However, according to 'Sport', the club do not want to stop their savings there. Barca have re-contacted Frenkie de Jong's team to offer him a different contract.
Nobody is thinking about De Jong leaving, who will be one of Xavi's main men in 2023. The Catalan side want to make him feel important with a longer contract, but with the wages more evenly spread across those years more.
Therefore, Barcelona would substantially reduce their spending on the squad in order to alleviate the pressures of La Liga's wage limit. De Jong still has a contract from the 'Bartomeu era', which Laporta has still not been able to address.
Barcelona's next aims would be to adapt Jordi Alba and Ter Stegen's to the new economical reality of the club, despite the Dutch footballer's wishes coming first.
