Barca midfielder Gavi trained on the sidelines on Wednesday in Barcelona's final session before facing Valencia on Thursday (21:30 CET) in the Copa del Rey quarter-finals.
The Andalusian player, who had to withdraw in the first minutes of the game against Alaves after suffering a concussion in a collision with Argentine striker Tomas Conechny, took to the pitch at the Tito Vilanova pitch at the Ciudad Deportivo Joan Gamper, but did not train at the same pace as his teammates.
If Gavi is out for the game at Mestalla, Dani Olmo will be the big new addition to Flick's squad. The player from Terrassa, who has been out with a muscle injury since 18 January, has returned to training with his teammates for the second consecutive day.
Flick himself spoke about both players at the press conference: "Dani Olmo is an option for the second half. For Gavi there is a protocol and he is ruled out. The blow was very hard, also for the opponent." Injured Andreas Christensen, Marc-André ter Stegen and Marc Bernal are the other confirmed absentees for Thursday's cup clash.
