After winning La Liga, the FC Barcelona board have started to work on compiling the squad for next year, where the club's main aim is to balance their books to be able to comply with the 'Financial Fair Play' requirements.
Therefore, according to 'Sport', the side's main objective will be to renew Frenkie de Jong, who is still under contract until 2026, but the club are interested in keeping him for the long-term, with some wage adjustments.
Barca's desire is for the Dutchman to accept a lower wage. The deal would be for more years and more reasonable wages which would help to balance the side's books.
Nothing's been confirmed officially, but what's for sure is that the good relationship between the parties could speed up negotiations. The board are confident about closing the agreement before the season ends.
De Jong has become a vital starter for Xavi, so much so that it's not out of the question that he will become an integral part of the post-Busquets midfield.
