Barcelona captain Sergi Roberto celebrated the continuity of coach Xavi Hernandez next season, assuring that ‘he is the best option’ to fight for titles in the future.
"We are very happy that Xavi will continue. We are dead set on him and his coaching staff. Last week's results tainted the work we were doing a little bit, competing in Europe like we haven't done for years," the Catalan midfielder told “TV3” after the 4-2 win over Valencia.
Sergi Roberto is one of the first first-team players to react to the coach's decision to reverse his decision to leave Barcelona at the end of the current season and honour his contract, which expires on 30th June 2025.
On the team's situation after being eliminated from the Champions League and being left without options in La Liga, the player from Reus said that ‘last week was a bit cruel’ because they had ‘got the fans excited again’.
On the match against Valencia, which was settled in the second half with a hat-trick from Robert Lewandowski, he praised the good game of their opponents, who went ahead at half-time (1-2), and praised the reaction of his teammates to turn the game around.
"The team approached the second half with a great desire to come back and that's what happened. I'd like to thank the fans for coming out because we need their support between now and the end of the season", he concluded.
