Leo Messi is once again faced with one of the most important decisions of his life. Once he is back at PSG, after winning the World Cup with Argentina, the striker will have to decide what to do next.
His contract at the Parisian side runs out in the summer of 2023, which is why the man from Rosario will be free to decide about his future. It is a next step which has two main options: either stay at PSG, or leave the Parc des Princes in favour of a new side. And it is this second choice which could take the Argentine captain back to Barcelona.
There has been a lot of talk in the last few days about a possible return for the 35 year old forward to the Camp Nou, however the reality is that Barca have not yet spoken to him. According to 'Mundo Deportivo', the club's board have spoken about trying to get him back, but nothing concrete has been done, as, the reality is that financially it would be very hard. That is why the 'Cules' have not directly spoken with Leo to know whether he wants to return to Spanish soil or not.
Having said that, if Messi wanted to return to Barcelona, there is a way he could go back without the club having to spend a penny: get him in once his contract at PSG is over on the 30th June 2023.
Even though financially speaking Barcelona would not be able to match what PSG are offering him, it is all about what the player himself wants for this to get to the next stage and for him to return to his life-long club, a Barcelona where he grew as a professional player and where he became walking football history.
For now, this option does seem far off, especially after what Barcelona president Joan Laporta said when asked about whether he could come back: "If there are more financial levers, they won't be to make signings".
