The signing of Vitor Roque has been the subject of controversy since before it even came to fruition. Barcelona signed him for 40 million euros from Athletico Paranaense and he was due to join the squad this summer, but the board brought him forward to last winter in order to mitigate the arrival of Xavi Hernandez's project. However, he only started 16 times last season.
Understandably, he was not given a role as part of the starting eleven because of Robert Lewandowski's depth, although there were periods when he did not even work as a substitute.
Gradually, the situation became more and more entrenched and Barcelona are now assuming that he will eventually leave the Catalan club. According to 'Sport', a Saudi side have made an offer that would allow them to recoup their investment in him and generate capital gains.
As a result, his transfer has to be at least 40 million euros, which brought the 19-year-old to Spain. Vitor Roque wants to stay and prove his worth. Hansi Flick intends to study him during the pre-season in case he would like to allow him a space in the planning, although this is unlikely.
From the Barcelona board, this opportunity is seen as a potential important sale to close other deals such as the possible arrival of Nico Williams from Athletic.
