Barcelona are looking at the market and see that there is an option that is gaining ground. It is that of Jonathan Tah. The centre-back finishes his contract with Bayer Leverkusen on 30th June 2025 and has decided not to extend his contract with the reigning Bundesliga champions.
The player himself confirmed this to the 'Süddeutsche Zeitung': "I will not sign a new contract with Bayer Leverkusen, my decision has been made. I will give my best until the end and then we will see what happens with my future club. My decision is to go and try different experiences".
These statements point directly to Barcelona. The Catalan club already tried to sign him in the now closed summer transfer window with 20 million euros on the table, although Jonathan Tah wants to end his time at Bayer Leverkusen in style.
Barring a surprise in the winter, everything points to his free arrival at Barcelona for next season. Hansi Flick has problems in his back line with Ronald Araujo and Andreas Christensen out of action. At the moment, he is making do with Pau Cubarsi and Inigo Martinez.
Barcelona are insisting on German talent to shape their new project and Jonathan Tah looks set to be next. He wants to try 'different experiences' and the Catalan club is gaining ground to count on the leader of Bayer Leverkusen's defence in the 2025-26 season.
