Barcelona to open Barca academy in Azerbaijan

FC Barcelona have reached an agreement with the Government of Azerbaijan to establish a Barca Academy in Baku. The deal was formalised by the club's president, Joan Laporta, and the country's leader, Ilham Aliyev.

On Saturday, Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev hosted Barcelona president Joan Laporta to announce the signing of an agreement for the creation of a Barca academy in the country, as reported by the Azerbaijani Presidency
According to the official statement, Laporta expressed to Aliyev that "Azerbaijan has great potential for cooperation,” which is precisely why this marks his second visit to Baku in a short period of time.
The statement further noted that the discussion addressed the state's commitment to the "development of sports in Azerbaijan, including football." It also highlighted that "the country regularly hosts prestigious international sporting events at the highest level, as well as world-class football matches."
Aliyev and Laporta exchanged views on the future activities of the academy and discussed cooperation in the development of youth football in Azerbaijan.
The agreement to establish the Barca Academy, which will be based in Baku, was officially signed by Laporta and the president of the Azerbaijan Football Federation, Rovshan Najaf.
