Bayern face bogey ground in 'European Clasico'

The Santiago Bernabeu will experience another of its great Champions League nights. It is the competition that Real Madrid fans love the most, the competition in which they feel at home. They will be looking to reach the final of the continental competition again on Wednesday.
It will not be easy for Carlo Ancelotti's side, although they have the slight advantage of playing in front of their home fans. They will face a Bayern Munich side who know what it's like to knock them out in the semi-finals of the European competition.
Playing at home is practically having a goal advantage over their opponents. If we look at the head-to-head encounters between Madrid and the Bundesliga side, Bayern would only go through to the final on two occasions, compared to nine for Real Madrid and another two that would send the tie to extra time.
The 'European Clasico' has been played on 13 occasions at the home of 'Los Blancos'. From the 1975-76 European Cup semi-final to the 2017-18 semi-final. Those two matches ended in a draw at the end of 90 minutes.
Only in the group stage of 99-00, with a 2-4 defeat; and in the semi-finals of 2000-01, with a 0-1 win, were Bayern Munich able to storm the Santiago Bernabeu. The rest were wins for the Spanish giants, such as the 4-2 semi-final victory in 2017 or the 1-0 semi-final win in 2014, before winning 'La Decima'.
