Bayern Munich technical secretary Christoph Freund said the Bavarian club are "in talks" over the renewal of Jamal Musiala and that their "aim is for him to stay at Bayern for the long term and help shape an era".
At the press conference ahead of the clash with Holstein Kiel, the Austrian defended that they want to "renew the contract" and make sure he "plays at the club for as long as possible", given that he is, he said, an exceptional and world-class player.
He also responded to the words of the club's former player Dietmar Hamann, who had advised the sale of the playmaker, whom he had criticised for being too individualistic, to sign Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz.
"Anyone who has that opinion will find it a bit absurd and far-fetched. In other countries, such young players with so much potential would be highly praised and you are grateful to have players like that for your country," he replied.
Questioned on the same subject, the Belgian coach defended Musiala's qualities and stressed that "he should stay like this and not change anything". "We are happy to have him. He can become one of the three or four best players in the world."
