Bayer Leverkusen make a statement in their bid for the Bundesliga title. The team led by Xabi Alonso thrashed Bayern Munich 3-0 and took a 5-point lead over the Bavarians with the same number of matches (21).
After the thrashing at the BayArena, the Bavarian giants' CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen took to the 'Sky Sports' microphones and made it quite clear that Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel's job, who has a contract until 2025, is not in any danger.
"Nothing has changed. We knew it was going to be a difficult game, but we have to look forward. It was a deserved defeat, but we won't give up," said the Bayern manager, who understands the criticism of the coach.
"I have no problem with criticism. The objective ones about our play, for example, are totally understandable. We are a club that stands for diversity and a variety of opinions, but we take offence when criticism becomes unobjective and personal. It is appropriate that I defend the coach," he concluded.
