For the first time in Chelsea's new era under Enzo Maresca, Ben Chilwell has been included in a matchday squad list for the club. The 27-year-old is in line to make an appearance during the Carabao Cup fixture, which will see Chelsea face League Two side Barrows on Tuesday.
Chilwell's time at Chelsea seemed to be up after his continuous injuries forced the club to sideline him to from the first team. Even more so, when the Italian head coach adviced him that it would be “better to leave and go and get minutes" elsewhere before the opening game of the 2024/25 Premier League season.
However, after a failed loan move to Turkey, brighter days started to reappear for the Englishman, as he was included in the Chelsea’s squad list for the Premier League - though he did not manage to secure a place in Chelsea's squad list for the Conference League group phase matches.
Ahead of the EFL Cup clash, Maresca said: “Some we will see if they start from the beginning. If not they will be on the bench and hopefully, we will give them some minutes.” The match against Barrow could be the opportunity Chilwell has been waiting for to make his way back into a starting place at Stamford Bridge.
