Mexico's Hugo Sanchez, winner of five 'Pichichi' trophies, said on Tuesday that French striker Karim Benzema will leave Real Madrid as a legend and will be remembered forever, as well as pointing to England's Harry Kane as a good candidate to take his place.
"Benzema has left us many goals, many games and many titles. That matters to every team in the world when it comes to the issue of memories. Although he has not retired, he is a Madrid legend who will be remembered forever," he said during a press conference.
Benzema said goodbye on Monday to Real Madrid, a club with which he won 25 titles in 14 seasons, including five Champions League titles. In addition, Al Ittihad's new player Benzema scored 354 goals in 647 appearances for the 'Merengues'.
Sanchez suggested England's Harry Kane as a good replacement for Benzema at Madrid, although he said he would like his former club, with whom he won five Spanish La Liga titles, to sign Norway's Erling Haaland and France's Kylian Mbappe in the future.
"I have been saying for a long time that Harry Kane would be a good striker for Real Madrid. Now there is talk that he could go to Madrid, that rumour is close, it's a probability. Apart from Harry Kane there is Haaland, an ideal '9' for Madrid or Mbappe, the ideal partner I suggest," he said.
