Thibaut Courtois is injured. The Real Madrid keeper, who played the full 90 against Sweden in the first matchday of the Euros 2024 qualifying campaign, has had to leave his country's camp early due to an adductor injury. The Belgian Football Federation confirmed the news online, raising worries at Real Madrid.
"Update: Thibaut returned for precaution reasons back to Real Madrid due to a minor strain in the adductor", the Red Devils tweeted, together with a photo of the keeper. His injury is now a problem for Madrid to deal with. It's probable that he'll undertake some tests as soon as he's ready to at the training centre, where he'll have to get straight to work on his recovery.
The goalkeeper is a key piece in Carlo Ancelotti's side and one of the best in the world at his job. If he's out for some time, the Italian coach will have to give Andriy Lunin some game time, who's been dying to get playing. He was getting some minutes in the Copa del Rey, but never in the big games, when he lost his spot again.
If Courtois being out is confirmed, the Ukrainian will have to take a step up like he did in La Liga against Elche and Mallorca, against Al Hilal and Al Ahly in the Club World Cup. Those games are important because they're the most recent ones with him starting. Those appearances were in the first half of February and, from there on in, he's just been warming up the bench.
