It was bound to happen and it is now official. La Liga match between Valencia and Real Madrid on Saturday 2nd November for Matchday 12 has been formally postponed. The strong DANA that has left dramatic consequences in the City of Turia forced the RFEF, following a formal request from LaLiga and the clubs, to take the decision, given that football has obviously taken a back seat to what has happened in recent days in the country, but especially in the Valencian Community.
With the number of victims growing by the minute (already at almost a hundred) and serious logistical and domestic damage in the urban belt of the city, the holding of matches is the least of the worries in a city that has experienced one of the toughest episodes in its history due to the floods caused by the heavy rains.
Valencia, like Levante, had already had to suspend Wednesday's Copa del Rey match against CP Parla Escuela due to difficulties in leaving the town. Moreover, as the casualties and material damage were being counted, the club's intention was not to play any football matches.
The news began to take shape throughout Wednesday, even more so with the continuous trickle of postponements in the Copa del Rey. Valencia were counting on Real Madrid's acquiescence should they decide to request the postponement of the match until they finally took the step of formally requesting the suspension from the employers' association, who, after giving the go-ahead, passed it on to the Spanish Football Federation.
