BREAKING: Modric, last-minute absentee for Mallorca clash

Carlo Ancelotti had no notable absentees in the squad for the Super Cup in Arabia, apart from the well-known Dani Carvajal and Eder Militao, plus Jesus Vallejo who joined the squad in the last few days. David Alaba came in as a new addition, as well as the award to several youth players. There was little in the way of absentees beyond those already known to the Italian coach. But on Thursday, just hours before the semi-final against Mallorca, the first setback came.
Real Madrid published a statement saying that Luka Modric would not be able to take part in this afternoon's clash against the Balearic side. The Croatian player, who played in the last Copa del Rey match against Deportiva Minera at the Cartagonova, is suffering from a viral process and will not be available for the match.
Modric had started the year gaining in importance. Against Valencia, he came on in the last 20 minutes and scored the equaliser that spurred the team on to the comeback. Against La Minera, he also contributed to the 5-0 win.
Now, Carlo Ancelotti will have to think of a starting eleven without him against Mallorca. He is spoilt for choice with Tchouameni, Camavinga, Ceballos, Valverde or Bellingham as other options for that position...
