Brighton's De Zerbi makes headlines in Catalan press
On the front page of Wednesday's Sport, which reports that Barcelona are about to begin talks to sign a new coach for next season, there is a picture of Brighton & Hove Albion boss Roberto de Zerbi on the front page. In 'Mundo Deportivo', they talk about the reasons that convince the board of directors that, if he manages to leave the Premier League free, he is one of the most liked.

Hansi Flick and Roberto de Zerbi are the main candidates for the Barcelona bench for next season. Both names were mentioned in the Catalan press shortly after the announcement of Xavi Hernandez's resignation on 30th June. In Italy, Simone Inzaghi is the subject of speculation, with 'Tuttosport' reporting that he is on the Barcelona radar, but also on the radar of Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool.
Financially, the most understandable option is the German, who is a free agent following his sacking as national team coach. The Brighton & Hove Albion boss has a contract until the summer of 2026 and his Inter Milan counterpart until 2025, so signing either of them would mean breaking their commitment to their current projects and, consequently, a potential expense for the Catalan giants coffers.
Even so, the main sports newspapers that follow the 'Cules' have given some prominence to the Seagull's coach on Wednesday, in which he appears on the front page of 'Sport' and in a publication of 'Mundo Deportivo' that praises the endorsements that have made the sporting management look favourably on him. Until now, the most talked-about contender for the job was the German.
So far, Simone Inzaghi has not featured much in the Catalan press, which will need to pay close attention in the coming weeks and months to determine how the search for a new coach progresses. What is most appealing about De Zerbi is his daring and risk-taking style of play, as well as his good connection with the youngsters. He is credited with the rise to prominence of players such as Alexis mac Allister and Moises Caicedo.
