Aston Villa successfully negotiated a one-year contract extension with Argentine midfielder Emiliano Buendia securing his services until 2027.
The 28-year-old midfielder joined Villa from Norwich City in 2021 for more than £30m and has been the subject of rumours about a possible exit, with Bayer Leverkusen one of the candidates. Leverkusen's pursuit of Buendia comes as they search for a replacement for the injured Martin Terrier.
Despite his few starts this season, Villa coach Unai Emery stressed the player's importance: “He has the option to leave but today we needed him,” said Emery.
The contract extension shows Villa's commitment to retaining key players while competing for European qualification.
