Italy's national team ended up having a disappointing European Championship. Former footballer Antonio Cassano, known for his explosive statements, said on the channel 'Viva el Futbol' that the 'Azzurra' were "disgusting", although he defended Luciano Spalletti.

Italy's present is rather dark and their future is uncertain. The victory at Euro 2020 was an oasis in the Azzurri's desert journey over the last decade, in which they have not been able to qualify for a World Cup and have chained one disappointment to another.
In Germany, Luciano Spalletti's side had to go out of the group stage on a last-minute goal to Croatia, and days later they were eliminated uncontested by Switzerland.
Results and form are provoking huge criticism of this Italian national team, which is missing some of the big names of yesteryear. One of those who has thrown the most knives at this generation is Antonio Cassano.
He played 39 games and scored 10 goals for the 'Azzurri' between 2003 and 2014, so he was part of both the winning cycle and his country's first big upset. Now, he defends Spalletti but rails against the players.
"We're disgusting, that's the reality. Italy is a team without personality, without quality, without an idea, without anything. The coach couldn't do any more than that," the 41-year-old told 'Viva el Futbol'.
For Cassano, Spalletti did what he could: "The coach couldn't do more than this. The truth is that these half players who say they are good should stand out, and instead we s*ck. In Italy they only think about speculating instead of playing, but on the bench we had a genius," he added.
What's curious is that after these tremendous statements, he lashed out at the press: "The most shameful thing is the offences of some newspapers. It is disgusting and scandalous that they are allowed to offend both the kids and the coach with such headlines. Shame on them."
