Cole Palmer, who has been awarded the Premier League's Player of the Month for September, has played a key role at Chelsea since he arrived from Manchester City in the 2023/24 campaign.
The 22-year-old scored 25 goals and provided 15 assists in his first season at Stamford Bridge. And he is not letting his stats slip this term. The midfielder has found the net six times and assisted five times in nine competitive games so far.
As a result, some of his work circles have considered him as one of the next Ballon d'Or winners. "No doubt he can, no doubt. He’s got a bit of a maverick personality on the pitch, you can see that. You can see it in training, you can see it in the games. He’s got that ability," Paul Winstanley told The Telegraph.
Chelsea's co-sporting directors also spoke about how they decided to move for Pep Guardiola's former player. "We didn’t think necessarily that we’d be able to get him here really, did we? There was a feeling that ‘no, Cole Palmer won’t be for sale’.
"We’d been speaking about him throughout that window and then as it came towards the latter stage of the window, we felt like we wanted to do something else and do something around that area of the pitch. He came up again and we all said ‘let’s go for it, let’s see what’s possible’. And then there seemed to be a little bit of feedback that there could be something there," he added.
