While it seemed that Mike Maignan was close to an extension with AC Milan, the departure of technical director Paolo Maldini could change the name of the game. Arriving in Italy during the 2021 summer window, the French keeper could now be tempted by an exit.
On the Blues' end of things, they have not been satisifed this season by the performances of keepers Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy, and have reportedly made it clear to the goalies that their futures may not be guaranteed at the club. The higher-ups at the London team are therefore on the hunt for a replacement, and the name of Mike Maignan has kept popping up.
Chelsea's interest is reportedly nothing new. Back in 2020, the Blues had targeted 'Magic Mike' while he was developping at Lille. But the Frenchman wasn't easy to recruit. While money is not an issue for the English club,, Milan's directors have no intention of parting with their goalkeeper, who has performed exceptionally well for the 'Rossoneri'.
