Chelsea managed to advance in the EFL Cup round beating Brighton and giving a break to Pochettino and his team who were going through a bad run of results. The Blues had gone four games without a win but this victory was marred by yet another injury to Chilwell.
The Stamford Bridge team has a long list of injured players: Madueke, Lavia, James, Chukwuemeka, Chalobah, Nkunku, Badiashile, Fofana. This long list could be joined by the English defender who was substituted in the match and will undergo scans to assess the injury.
Chilwell's injury only adds to mounting pressures on Chelsea coach Mauricio Pochettino. The defender has suffered hamstring injuries in the past, such as the one that caused him to miss the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
"Yes, we need to assess tomorrow but I think it is his hamstring," Pochettino told reporters about defender Chilwell's injury. Chelsea will face Blackburn Rovers in the fourth round after Tomasson's side beat Cardiff City 5-2 in a 5-2 win.
