Milan have got themselves a player who is turning heads all over Europe. This star is Rafael Leao, who is on the verge of signing a contract renewal until 2028, with a release clause of 150 million euros.
Although it's not totally official, for the Italians, it's as good as sealed. Anyone who wants to get their hands on the Portuguese star now will have to pay a pretty penny, although this wouldn't be a big issue for a club like Chelsea. The Blues, with the chequebook of Todd Boehly, could throw caution to the wind.
In fact, the London side already tried to convince Milan to let the player go last summer, according to 'The Athletic'. The outlet reported that the Blues offered the 'Rossoneri' two players to sweeten the deal: Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech.
Chelsea understood that the two were valued at a total of 100 million, the amount the Lombardy side asked for in order to let the Portuguese star leave. However, the trade was rejected and the club asked for 150 million, included in his contract, which would now be 175 million under the new contract.
This didn't deter the London club, who reached out to the Italians over the winter to ask if the star would renew his contract. Not getting the response they clearly wanted, Stamford Bridge pulled out the chequebook to bring in Enzo Fernandez and Mudryk instead.
