Chiesa misses out again as Slot provides update on winger's fitness

On Thursday, Arne Slot provided an update on Federico Chiesa's absence from Liverpool's thrilling 6-3 victory over Tottenham, explaining that the winger missed out due to illness.
Chiesa, who joined Liverpool from Juventus for an initial £10 million during the summer transfer window, was the only major signing of Slot's first window in charge. Despite a quiet transfer period, the Dutch manager has quickly put his stamp on the team, with Liverpool enjoying impressive form across both the Premier League and Champions League.
Currently four points clear at the top of the Premier League and leading their Champions League group, the club's only defeat under Slot came in a narrow 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest in September.
Chiesa, who was hailed as a bargain upon his arrival, has yet to make a significant impact on the pitch. Speaking about the Italy international's absence, Slot explained, "He's sick. Unfortunately, he's been ill for the last couple of days, so we couldn't include him in the squad for today's match."
Since his debut for the Reds in September, the 27-year-old has struggled with injuries, making only sporadic appearances. However, Slot remains optimistic about his recovery.
"He’s getting stronger. It’s been a tough adaptation period, especially after missing so much training," Slot told reporters. "But he's improving and facing stiff competition for the right-wing position."
Liverpool will look to extend their lead at the top when they host struggling Leicester at Anfield on Thursday.
