City seek to remove Haaland's buyout clause as Barca, Madrid interested in him

Erling Haaland, who signed a five-year contract in 2022 with Manchester City, has been targeted by several top European clubs since breaking the record for scoring the most goals in a season in the 2022/23 season.
The Norwegian striker scored 52 goals for the Sky Blues last campaign in all competitions. Understandably, the Manchester outfit don't want the 23-year-old to leave the Etihad Stadium.
The board tied Haaland to the contract of coach Pep Guardiola, i.e. his transfer clause will not be in force until the Spanish coach's contract expires in 2025. The buyout clause for the Premier League's top goalscorer last term is £175.5 million (200 million euros).
However, they are considering removing his current contract, and therefore his current buyout clause. Haaland's father said in an interview that the striker would play for City for three or four years at most and interest from clubs such as Real Madrid and Barcelona is growing.
As a result, Manchester City could offer him a new contract to ward off potential suitors and for him to stay for many more seasons at the Etihad Stadium.
