Frenchman Clement Turpin will be in charge of the first leg between Manchester City and Real Madrid. The Frenchman was the referee of the 21-22 Champions League final between Real Madrid and Liverpool.

42-year-old French referee Clement Turpin will take charge of the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 tie between Manchester City and Real Madrid at the Etihad Stadium.
Turpin, who officiated the final of the 2021-2022 edition of the competition in which Real Madrid beat Liverpool 1-0, has also refereed six other times against the Spanish side. The balance has been five wins and one draw, the most recent meeting between the two sides, in the first leg of the semi-finals of the last edition of Europe's top competition against Bayern in Munich.
In the case of the English team, there are four official precedents. The most immediate of these came in this season's group stage, during the 2-0 defeat against Juventus. It was also present in a 1-1 draw in 2022-2023 against Bayern Munich and in two victories, a 7-0 win against Schalke 04 in 2018-2019 and a 1-2 win against Borussia Monchengladbach in 2015-2016.
It has also been announced that Bosnian Irfan Peljto has been appointed for the match between French sides Brest and Paris Saint-Germain, Norwegian Espen Eskas for Sporting Portugal v Borussia Dortmund">Borussia Dortmund and German Daniel Siebert for Juventus v PSV Eindhoven.
