'Sportbild' believe there is a return to Borussia Dortmund on the cards for midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, who played there before he signed for Manchester City.
The German outlet reports that City want to renew Gundogan, but only for a year, while he wants to secure at least two more years with the club. This clash makes it seem like the German international could leave the English side.
Although the newspaper says Gundogan's big goal was to one day play for Barcelona, the Catalan club's financial situation "makes it doubtful that he could make the move, which could violate spending limits."
This makes the possibility of Dortmund look ever more likely, as the German side will have an extra €120 million to spend this summer, thanks to the very likely departure of Jude Bellingham to Real Madrid.
Gundogan has kept contact with Dortmund throughout his time at City. The current sporting director , Sebastian Kehl was with him on the pitch in 2012, when the German side won the double, and in the Champions League final in 2013, which they lost to Bayern Munich (2-1).
For his part, Ilhan Gundogan, the player's agent and family member, confirmed that a decision is yet to be made regarding the German's future: "Nothing has been agreed with City nor with any other club. The recent reports are not true. Ilkay is focused on the final".
For now nothing has been officially said, but what is certain is that Gundogan will be one of the most sought after players in the upcoming transfer market. Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund and even Manchester City will try to get his services, but it remains to be seen who will succeed.
