Belgium international Thibaut Courtois has announced on social media that he is leaving the Belgian national team as long as Domenico Tedesco remains on the bench. The relationship between the goalkeeper and the Italian coach has not been the best for some time, as was confirmed when the ‘Merengue’ was not called up for the European Championship.

Belgium's Thibaut Courtois announced on social media that he is resigning from the Belgium national team, but not permanently. The Real Madrid goalkeeper is only leaving the national team until Domeninco Tedesco is no longer coach.
The relationship between the goalkeeper and the Italian coach has not been the best for some time now. The non-call-up of the ‘Merengue’ for Euro 2024 in Germany confirmed the rupture between the two.
Courtois explained his decision as follows: "After the events with the coach and a lot of reflection, I have decided not to return to the Belgian national team under his (Tedesco's) management. In this matter, I accept my share of responsibility. However, for the future, my lack of confidence in him will not contribute to maintaining the necessary cordial atmosphere".
"The Federation, with whom I have had several conversations, accepts my position and the reasons that led me to this painful but coherent decision. I regret possibly disappointing some fans, but I am convinced that this is the best way forward for Belgium, as it closes a debate and allows the team to focus on achieving its objectives," he added.
The Belgian Football Federation commented on Courtois' statement: “The RBFA regrets but accepts Thibaut Courtois” decision to no longer play for the Red Devils under the current sporting management.
"After the European Championship, we asked him about his future plans with the Red Devils. They are now clear and we respect his decision. We want to thank Thibaut for the good times he has had and wish him the best of luck for the future," it continued.
